Don Schaffer was our gentle giant, he stood 6’4” and had a heart as big as his stature.  He held national and world titles in powerlifting and was a great ambassador to the sport.  Don was a fitness trainer at Vessell’s Fitness and got many lifters involved in his beloved sport.  Don passed away in 2015 at 82 years after fighting through 2 bouts of lymphatic cancer.  He was the same champion in his fight against cancer as he was everything else. His motto was “there is no finish line.”
